Coimbra Portagem Hostel

I recently stayed at Portagem Hostel for a few nights during my trip to Coimbra. The hostel was formerly a hospital, giving it a unique and spacious feel. The communal areas and hallways had plenty of seating, and I loved spending time on the rooftop terrace with views of the river. The large mixed bathroom was well-maintained, with powerful showers and individual toilets. My six-person bunk-bed room had high ceilings and comfortable beds, and the air-conditioning kept the temperature just right. The staff, especially Eduardo, were friendly and did a great job of making everyone feel welcome. The location was perfect, just a short walk from the train station and close to cafes and shops.

there was no kitchen available for guests, only a fridge and a microwave. This made it difficult to cook and eat meals.

This budget hostel is perfectly located in the heart of the city, just a stone's throw away from all the major attractions and close to the train station. the rooms are spacious and clean, with comfortable beds and a traditional feel. the shared bathrooms are well-maintained, and the showers have good water pressure. the hostel staff is friendly and helpful, and there is a luggage storage room available. the hostel also has a terrace with stunning views of the city.

The check-in time is a bit late, at 16:00, which can be inconvenient for some travelers.

The location was fantastic, just a short walk from the train station and situated at the beginning of the main street. We were amazed by the fine view from the terrace and the beautiful historical azulejos in the building. The hostel was very clean and the receptionist girl was helpful. we would recommend this hostel for its great location and cleanliness.

The building of Portagem Hostel is fine, making for a visually pleasing stay. The showers are modern and comfortable, the best I've seen in a hostel. The location is great, with easy access to the river and many fantastic restaurants. The common room is spacious and perfect for chilling out.

coimbra portagem hostel was even better than my previous stay in coimbra! the location in the center was perfect, with amazing views of the river. the staff was friendly and helpful, and the azulejos in the building were breathtaking. the terrace was a great place to relax and watch the sunset.

Really big room with a comfy chair and big curtains that block light from the street. Nice staff that helped with parking. - Commom bathroom close and clean with multiple stalls and showers. - Beautiful old building restored with care and tasteful decor. - Impeccably clean throughout, feels more like a hotel than a hostel. - Great central location, just 3 blocks from the train station and at the base of the main street. - Amazing view of the river and bridge from my room. - Terrace with an even better view. - Plenty of space to relax in common areas. - Staff is knowledgeable and really friendly.
